MacDonald and Reimer Stump Jackals

Elmira, NY- The Elmira Jackals and Reading Royals met up for the eighth time this season tonight at First Arena in front of 3,673. Royals forward Kirk MacDonald netted a natural hat trick and an assist, helping the Royals to a 4-1 win.

The scoreless tie was cracked by Kirk MacDonald at the 13:25 mark of the first period. MacDonald netted his second of the game on the power play at the 18:55 mark. Brock Hooton and Gerard Miller were credited with the assists. Reading led 2-0 after the first period with an 18-12 shot advantage.

It took 3:37 of the second period for MacDonald to find the twine for the third time. The unassisted goal was his 18th of the season. Moments later at the 4:14 mark, Paul McIlveen and Brandon Roach set up Pierre-Luc Faubert with a break a way. Faubert put a move on Royal goal keeper James Reimer and snuck a shot through the five hole to bring the score to 3-1. Reading retook the three goal lead moments later at the 7:27 mark when Brock Hooton beat Mitch O'Keefe. Dan Rudisuela and MacDonald were credited with the assists. Elmira held an 11-8 shot advantage in the middle frame, but trailed 4-1 heading into the third.

The Jackals continued to pressure in the third period, but again Reimer would come up big turning aside 13 of 13 shots in the third period and 35 of 36 on the evening. Elmira's Mitch O'Keefe turned away 25 of 29 shots on the evening. Reading finished the contest going 2/10 on the power play while the Jackals went 0/5.

With the loss the Jackals fall to 27-20-1-4 while the Royals improve to 16-30-2-2.
