Idaho Steelheads News Release
BOISE, ID- The Idaho Steelheads (27-16-3) never trailed in tonight's 4-2 win over the Phoenix RoadRunners (21-23-3) in front of 4,965 fans at Qwest Arena.
Garett Bembridge opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal, his 13th of the year, at 4:07 of the first period. Darrell Hay and Bryan McGregor tallied the assists. John McNabb answered back for the RoadRunners about ten minutes later, however, with assists going to Kimbi Daniels and Merit Waldrop. The score was tied 1-1, but that was as close to the lead as Phoenix would be all evening.
Mark Bomersback scored his 15th of the season at 18:07 of the first period, with assists going to Marty Flichel and Bryan McGregor to make the score 2-1 heading into the first intermission.
The second period yielded only one goal, as Ben Nelson scored his 19th of the season on the power play, with McGregor adding the assist.
McGregor's offensive display continued in the third, as he opened the scoring in the final frame with his 17th of the season, assisted by Hay and Bomersback to put the Steelheads up 4-1. Jeremy Swanson would add a late goal for Phoenix, but it was just not enough for the RoadRunners tonight.
Rejean Beauchemin earned the win in net for Idaho, stoping 25 of 27 shots to improve to 11-7-2 on the season. Kyle Jones took the loss for Phoenix, falling to 2-9-1; he stopped 25 of 29 Idaho shots.
Next up for the Steelheads: the Las Vegas Wranglers. Wednesday night marks the first game of the three-game series. The puck will drop at Qwest Arena at 7:10 PM.
