Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - G Yutaka Fukufuji made 42 saves and the Bakersfield Condors received timely goals in a 5-3 victory against the Ontario Reign before 5,525 fans at Rabobank Arena on Friday night.

The Condors (18-27-6, 42pts) and Reign exchanged first period tallies, with RW Mike Wirll getting the scoring started 6:33 into the game with his 11th of the season. Ontario (25-19-4, 54pts) tied it on the power play with RW Jon Rheault potting his 11th of the season at 9:53. F Matt Pope notched his 28th of the year to regain the lead on the power play at 12:56, only to have the Reign answer again. D Shawn Germain scored shorthanded to make it 2-2 at the end of one frame. Bakersfield led in shots, 12-8, in the period.

Bakersfield pushed back in front early in the period, with Wirll netting his second of the night just 4:39 into the frame. The Reign had the edge in shots in the period, but watched the Condors put two more home. RW Chad Painchaud notched two in the middle frame, his 13th of the season at 13:03 (on Friday the 13th, no less), and his 14th with just 15 seconds left, shorhanded, to make it 5-2.

Ontario tried to cut away at the Condors lead and scored an early power play tally in the final period to make it a two-goal game, but Fukufuji shut the door after that. The Condors netminder stopped 36 of 37 Reign shots over the final two periods, and 42 of 45 overall, to make the lead hold. It was his seventh consecutive start between the pipes and his fourth win in his last five outings. Tonight's win was the third in a row on home ice for the Condors, and fourth of their last five overall.
