Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Darryl Lloyd broke a 1-1 tie with 1:52 left in regulation and Victoria held on, snapping a seven-game home winning streak for Alaska in a 2-1 victory at Sullivan Arena before 5,355 Friday night.

The Salmon Kings broke a six-game winless skid with their first win in 17 days, while the Aces have lost five of six overall and tasted defeat for the second time in six days when leading after two periods. Alaska had won its first 20 games when leading after 40 minutes this season.

The Aces thought they had taken the lead early in the first period of Friday's game, as Nick Tuzzolino followed up his own shot and appeared to nudge the puck over the goal line. But after the three on-ice officials conferred with the goal judge at the next stoppage, play continued without incident, and the opening frame ended 0-0 despite a 17-4 disparity in shots on goal in favor of Alaska.

The Aces finally broke through against Victoria goalie Julien Ellis late in the second period, as Alexandre Imbeault beat him short side with a wrist shot from the left circle at 18:18. But with a 1-0 lead, Alaska allowed Wes Goldie, who had been held without a point in three of his last four games against the Aces, to get loose on a breakaway, and he beat Jean-Philippe Lamoureux for the equalizer with 13:03 remaining in the game.

Goldie set up the winner as well, sending a shot off the pads of Lamoureux directly into the skates of a hustling Lloyd, who was driving the net down the slot. The win marked the first for the Salmon Kings in five tries this year at Sullivan Arena, and a slight upper hand in the season series (13 points to 12).

Victoria owns a six-point lead in the West Division over Alaska (28-19-3) heading into tomorrow night's rematch at 7:15 p.m. The final regular season meeting between the two clubs takes place Sunday at 5:05 p.m. Both tilts will be broadcast live on KFQD AM 750, with Peanut Farm Pre-Game Show coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off.
