
Nesbitt Called up to AHL Peoria, Phillips Assigned

Gladiators forward and team scoring leader Derek Nesbitt has been called up to the Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League. In addition, defenseman David Phillips has been assigned to the Gladiators from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League.
Nesbitt has earned 18 points (eight goals, 10 assists) in 11 games this season with the Gladiators. He has collected at least one point in 10 of 11 games this season for Gwinnett, has five multiple point games and notched a season best four points (three goals, one assist) in a 6-2 win on October 22nd.
The Egmondville, Ontario, native was named the ECHL Player of the Week for October 17th through the 24th and was named the ECHL Player of the Month for October as he finished October with 13 points (six goals, seven assists) in seven games with the Gladiators. His +10 rating also led the ECHL in October to earn the AMI Graphics Plus Performer of the Month honor.
Nesbitt was in his third stint in Gwinnett. He ranked third in scoring with 69 points (26 goals, 43 assists) during his rookie campaign with Gwinnett in 2005-06 and helped the Gladiators advance to the 2006 Kelly Cup Finals. He then earned his first call up to the American Hockey League while with Gwinnett during the 2007-08 season. At the time of his recall, Nesbitt led the Gladiators in scoring with 39 points (11 goals, 28 assists) before joining the Rockford IceHogs for the rest of that season.
Phillips joins the Gladiators after he appeared in four games with the Toledo Walleye this season and recorded one assist and earned a +3 rating. He has skated in one game with the Wolves this season and did not record a point while with Chicago in the AHL.
The Beverley, England native began his professional career last season with the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL. He earned six assist in 52 games in Rockford. He also recorded two points (one goal, one assist) in six games with Toledo last season.
