Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV - The Nailers took 43 shots at the Cincinnati Cyclones, but they were unable to

pick up the win in the first game of a home-and-home series, 3-0.

After the first half of the first period featured few whistles blown, Wheeling went on the

power play for the first time in the game, as Garrett Wilson went to the box on a slashing

call at the 9:28 mark. The Nailers were unable to capitalize on the power play, with two shots

by Chris Barton deflecting just wide off of Cyclones goalie Brian Foster. The Cyclones got

on the board with Keith Seabrook's first goal of the season, assisted by Michael Pelech and Dan

Eves at the 16:05 mark. The Nailers got another late power play on a Mathieu Aubin

hooking penalty at the 18:24 mark, but were unable to draw even, as the first period ended.

The Nailers started the second period on a short power play, which was killed by the Cyclones. The score stayed 1-0 until, following an unsuccessful wraparound attempt, Anthony Luciani

scored from the left face-off circle, assisted by Mathew Sisca and Alain Goulet at the 11:32 mark. The Nailers closed out the second period with a barrage of shots,

but Brian Foster was able to make the saves, giving the Cyclones a 2-0 lead heading into the

locker room.

Both teams came out shooting to start the third period, with both Delmas and Foster making

great saves. The teams played four-on-four hockey, after Matt Schepke of the Nailers and Michael

Pelech each received two minute minors for roughing at the 8:31 mark. The Nailers went on

the power play once again, on a Mathew Sisca hooking penalty at the 12:19 mark of the period,

but the Cyclones were able to kill it and keep a 2-0 lead. The Cyclones made it 3-0, when Matt

Carter scored an empty net goal from right outside the goal crease, assisted by Mathew Sisca

and Alain Goulet at the 18:57 mark of the period.

Brian Foster stopped all 43 shots he faced for the win. Peter Delmas took the loss, stopping 30

of 32 shots.

The Nailers travel to Cincinnati tomorrow night at 7:35 before returning to WesBanco Arena on

Sunday afternoon, where they will face the Elmira Jackals at 4:05. For ticket information or to
