March 23, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL- The Florida Everblades scored four power play goals to defeat the South Carolina Stingrays 5-2 Friday Night at Germain Arena. The win propels the Blades to fifth place in the Eastern Conference.
After a scoreless first period, the Florida Everblades found their rhythm and their offense erupted, putting up five goals in the second stanza starting with three unanswered goals in three minutes. The first goal came when a shot from David Fischer was blocked by Billy Sauer but then accidentally knocked back into the net by South Carolina's Brett Fleming.
Florida increased its lead to two as Kevin Quick was able to get a pass through the crease and right into the stick of Brayden Irwin who quickly slapped the puck into the goal. Just thirty seconds later, Florida added its third goal when Irwin found Scott Pitt wide open in the slot, where he would wrist shot the puck past Sauer for the 3-0 lead.
South Carolina answered back when newcomer Andrew Cherniwchan received a pass from Pierre-Luc O'Brien right in from of the crease. Cherniwchan took two shots from point blank range, and sneaked a backhander by Florida goaltender John Muse. The goal was the first of the career for Cherniwchan's who made his pro debut this evening.
The Everblades did not let up on the Stingrays and added two more goals before the end of the second period. The fourth goal of the period came when Cedric McNicoll took a tough angled shot from the bottom of the right side circle that sailed high of Sauer's glove and into the net giving the Blades a 4-1 lead.
Sebastian Piche finished off the period's scoring when Matt Beca found him in the slot and Piche fired a wrist shot that would once again get past Sauer to give Florida a 5-1 lead going into the second Intermission.
Florida's offense cooled down in the third period, and the Stingrays added one more goal from Cherniwchan. Muse turned aside the remaining shots on goal in the third, to preserve the 5-2 win.
John Muse earns the win stopping 23 of 25 shots on goal while Billy Sauer takes the loss allowing 5 goals on 36 attempts
