Nailers Lose At Cyclones 10-4
January 14, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release
Doug Krantz lit the lamp twice for his first ever professional goals and Bryan Ewing contributed his team-leading 23d goal of the year but it wasn't enough in a 10-4 setback at the Cincinnati Cyclones Wednesday night at US Bank Arena in Cincinnati. It was the most goals the Nailers have allowed this year.
The Nailers are on their first and only losing streak of the year having dropped 4 in a row to fall to 22-10-5 but they still have a 3 point lead atop the North Division standings over the Johnstown Chiefs who also lost Wednesday night.
Barrett Eghotz scored 4 goals to lead the attack and tied a team record with 3 goals in the 2nd period. Justin Johnson had a pair of goals. Cincy went 6 for 7 on the power play including a pair of 5-on-3 goals.
The Cyclones are in 4th place in the North with a mark of 19-15-5 for 43 points.
The Nailers have scored 4 goals in each of their last 4 losses but have allowed a combined total of 29 goals in the stretch.
Aaron Clarke returned to the Nailers following a 3 week stretch in Binghamton and former NHL'er Shane Willis made his Nailers debut with several nice scoring chances.
Wheeling is 6-3-1 vs. Cincinnati this year. The Cyclones are 4-6-0 vs. the Nailers.
The Nailers will travel to the Reading Royals on Friday night for a 7:30 encounter before returning for their next home game next Saturday night, January 17th for their 11th and last game of the year against the Cyclones.
