Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Barret Ehgoetz tied a club record with three second period goals and finished the night with four goals and an assist in a 10-4 win for the Cincinnati Cyclones over the North Division leading Wheeling Nailers. T.J. McElroy chipped in four assists, Mark Van Guilder had three assists and Justin Johnson planted a pair of goals for the Cyclones, who extended their winning streak to three games.

The six second period goals marked the third time in club history that the club had an offensive output of such magnitude in a period. The last time was the second period of a 13-2 rout of Reading on December 27, 2002.

The ten goals are the most a Chuck Weber-coached team has ever scored and were the most by the Cyclones since hanging that 13 spot on Reading on December 27, 2002.

The Cyclones took a 2-1 lead after the first period. Barret Ehgoetz opened the scoring 4:46 into the frame, firing a shot from the slot that deflected off traffic in front from T.J. McElroy and Mike Salekin. It was the 14th goal of the year for Ehgoetz. Cincinnati built the lead to 2-0 when Brandon Scero notched his seventh of the year from Ben Gordon and Ben McLeod at 9:07. Wheeling cut the deficit in half at 12:06 when Ben Geelan grabbed a rebound off the end boards and stuffed it into the net for his fourth of the year from Cliff Loya and Mike Greenier. The shots favored Wheeling, 11-9, in the first stanza.

Cincinnati exploded for six second period goals to blow the game open at 8-3. On a five-on-three power play, Ehgoetz got his second of the night at 44 seconds from Jimmy Kilpatrick and McElroy. Just 28 seconds later, Ehgoetz got his third of the night from McElroy and Frederic St. Denis-also on the power play. Doug Krantz slowed the bleeding with his first pro goal at 7:10 and cut the lead to 4-2. Mike Salekin ripped his fifth goal at 10:48 from Scero and Tom Sawatske. Less than two minutes later, at 12:45, Paul Lynch got his second of the year-redirecting a shot from McElroy and also Mark Van Guilder. Bryan Ewing of Wheeling cut the lead in half again, at 6-3, with his 23rd at 14:14. But power play goals from Ehgoetz-his fourth of the night and 17th of the season at 18:34 (from Salekin and Van Van Guilder) and Justin Johnson-his fourth of the year at 19:13 (from St. Denis and J.T. Wyman), pushed the lead to 8-3. Cincinnati outshot the Nailers, 21-6, in the period.

The Cyclones scored another pair in the third period to close the scoring in the 10-4 win. Johnson collected his second of the night and fifth of the year at 4:18 from Ehgoetz. The Nailers got their final goal of the night from Krantz at 14:59, before Kilpatrick collected his 14th score with 1:04 to go. Van Guilder and Scero had the helpers. Cincinnati also won the shots battle, 10-7, and claimed the shots lead in the game at 40-24.

Cincinnati scored six power play goals in seven tries-the six man-advantage goals were the second-most in club history.

Ryan Nie won his ninth game of the year, stopping 20 shots. Nie is now 10-0 in his career against Wheeling. Curtis Darling absorbed the defeat, turning aside 30 of the 40 shots he faced.
