In between, the Royals organization will host a Kid's All-Star Day at the Body Zone, the 2009 ECHL All-Star Skills Competition and Game Presented by Guardian WearTM, an All-Star Fan Fest, a concert, and a college hockey game.
Hockey Week In Reading begins with an ECHL regular season game between the Royals and the North Division rival Elmira Jackals at the Sovereign Center with the opening face-off scheduled for 11:05 am on the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday (Monday, January 19). Kids eighteen years of age and younger get into the matinee special for just $5.00, and the first 1500 kids (18 and younger) will receive an "All-Star Growth Chart" courtesy of the Reading Eagle. Immediately after the Royals' game on Monday, the action will shift to the Body Zone Sports and Wellness Complex (3103 Papermill Road, Wyomissing, PA, 610-376-2100) where the Royals will host a "Kids All-Star Day" from 3:00 to 6:00 pm, which will include a variety of activities, including an open, public skating session with the Royals' players. (Please contact the Body Zone directly for information regarding the fees to participate in the public skate and for skate rental).
On Tuesday (January 20), the Royals organization will host the 12th Annual ECHL All-Star Skills Competition Presented by Guardian WearTM at the Sovereign Center (7:05 pm). Tickets are available for the Skills Competition and can be purchased for $10.00 at the Sovereign Center Box Office, the Royals' office, Ticketmaster Charge by Phone (215-336-2000), www.ticketmaster.com, or any Ticketmaster outlet. (Please note that, although admission to the Fan Fest is free of charge, there will be a charge associated with playing the arcade-style games at The Works.)
On Wednesday (January 21), the ECHL All-Stars from the American and National Conferences will go head-to-head in the 17th Annual ECHL All-Star Game Presented by Guardian WearTM. Tickets are still available for the All-Star Game and can be purchased for just $25.00 at the same locations noted above for the Skills Competition.
On Thursday (January 22), Hockey Week In Reading celebrates on a different stage when recording artist 3 Doors Down performs at the Sovereign Center. Tickets to the concert are available and can be purchased at the Sovereign Center Box Office or through the above-noted Ticketmaster sources. On Friday (January 23), the energy returns to the ice when the men's ice-hockey teams from Kutztown University and Alvernia University face-off against each other at the Sovereign Center at 7:05 pm. This college hockey game is open to the public and is free of charge. The Hockey Week in Reading celebration comes to a close when the pros return to action on Saturday night (Januarey 24 @ 7:05 pm) at the Sovereign Center, where the Royals will take on the Wheeling Nailers in Teacher Appreciation Night presented by Berks Community Federal Credit Union.
