ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira Jackals' (27-9-1-2=57) offense exploded for seven goals to beat the Wheeling Nailers (13-23-2-2=30), 7-1, Saturday night at First Arena. Dan LaCosta earned the win in goal for the Jackals, making 27 saves, in his first start since Nov. 27th.

For the second night in a row, the Jackals scored early and took a 1-0 lead within the opening minutes. Jim McKenzie converted a nice feed from Dan Kronick, beating Curtis Darling at 2:09 of the first.

Wheeling bounced back to tie the game 1-1 at 9:27. LaCosta stopped Joe Guenther's initial shot but Aaron Clarke was there for the rebound and his eighth goal of the year. Chris Snavely was credited with the secondary assist.

The Jackals scored the eventual game-winning goal a mere 25 seconds later. Pierre-Luc Faubert snuck a wrist shot between Darling's pad and the post and into the net. Elmira had scored twice on their only two shots on goal and Greg Puhalski went to the bench and brought in Martin Houle to finish the game.

While the Nailers led the shot total much of the first two periods, including outshooting the Jackals 17-9 in the second period, Elmira expanded their lead to 4-1 heading to the third. Trevor Hendrikx scored for the second night in a row at 7:14 and Chaz Johnson increased his goal-scoring streak to five games with his 14th of the season at 10:59.

Bobby Robins scored just 55 seconds into the third to give Elmira the 5-1 edge. Dan Kronick and Tomas Kudelka added power-play goals at 4:49 and 8:52 respectively to account for the final score of 7-1.

Darling was charged with the loss while Houle stopped 21 of 26 in 50:08 of work. Wheeling was unable to score on seven power-play opportunities while the Jackals scored twice on their seven chances.
