Goepfert shines again, but Lynx blanked by Stingrays, 2-0
January 19, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
The Augusta Lynx got another strong performance from their goaltender #30 Bobby Goepfert, but again were plagued by power play woes on the road in a 2-0 loss on the road Saturday night in Charleston, South Carolina against the Stingrays. The Stingrays helped out by three power plays in the 3rd period alone, had the final 12 shots of the game, as the Lynx ran out of gas in the 3rd period. After a scoreless 1st period, largely dominated by the Lynx, the Stingrays got on the board first with the eventual game-winning goal from Cail MacLean, who beat Bobby Goepfert on a backdoor goal on a 5 on 3 power play. The Lynx had plenty of power play chances the first two periods, but could not convert, managing only one shot on goal through in the first three power plays. In the 3rd period, Goepfert made several spectacular saves to keep the Lynx in the game. The Lynx thought they had the game tied thanks to a goal from #12 Ryan Dingle, but it was ruled by referee David Jones that Dingle had colided with 'Rays goaltender Davis Parley causing the puck to go into the net despite the fact that the puck was clearly across the line before play was stopped. Despite the objections by the Lynx bench, the call stood and it was as close as the Lynx would get as an empty-net goal sealed their fate with five seconds remaining by Pierre-Luc O'Brien. Goepfert stopped 32 of 33 shots on the night, but suffered the loss. Tonight's 2-0 loss marks the first time all season long that the Lynx have been shutout on the road.
