BILOXI, MS - The Mississippi Sea Wolves (17-20-1-2) won their eighth game in the month of January by the score of 5-4 against the Gwinnett Gladiators at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Saturday night.
The Sea Wolves jumped out to an early lead, scoring two goals in the first three minutes of the game. At the 1:11 mark of the first period, Lance Monych took a feed from Mark Rooneem and beat Gwinnett's Dan Turple with a low shot through traffic. At 2:42, Travis Lisabeth scored his 11th goal of the season and second in as many nights when Gwinnett defenseman Chad Denny's lead pass landed right on Lisabeth's tape, the veteran forward took two steps towards the net and fired through Turple's pads. Stuart MacRae cut the Sea Wolves' lead to one when he tipped Jamie Milam's shot past Mississippi goaltender Morgan Cey at 19:42.
MacRae scored his second of the game on the power play just 1:42 into the second period when he banged home a feed from Jeff Mason. Travis Lisabeth regained the lead for the Sea Wolves when Mark Hurtubise won a faceoff over to him and he fired another low shot through Turple's pads at 7:39 of the second. Andy Brandt tied the game at three for Gwinnett when he found the rebound of a shot from Busniuk that hit the end boards and banged it past Cey at 17:44.
Matt Deschamps scored his fourth goal of the season, breaking down the right wing and firing a short-side shot that beat Turple over the glove at 7:16 og the third period. With Torry Gajda off for hooking, Mark Rooneem converted Jason Tejchma's centering feed for the shorthand game-winning goal at 8:36. Lou Dickenson drew Gwinnett within one with and 19:28 of the third period, banging a loose puck past Cey with Turple on the bench in favor of an extra attacker.
Mississippi finished the game 0-for-6 on the power play, and Morgan cey made 52 saves to earn the win.
