November 14, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release
The Colorado Eagles scored three goals in the second period and added four more in the third to blow-out the Allen Americans 8-1 at the Allen Events Center on Saturday. Eagles forward Jesse Mychan notched a five-point night, including his first hat trick of the season in the win.
Colorado got on the board late in the first period, as rookie forward Joe Zarbo raced down the right wing and cut to the slot, beating Allen goaltender Joel Rumpel with a wrister upstairs and giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead after one period of play.
The Eagles would continue to pour on the offense in the second, as forward Trent Daavettila took a pass from behind the net from Mychan, banging the puck home from the low-slot and making it 2-0 Colorado with 14:44 left in the period. The Eagles would then cash-in on the powerplay, as Mychan slammed home a rebound in front of the net just 45 seconds later to grow the Eagles lead to 3-0. Forward Christian Isackson would be the next to light the lamp on a sprawling effort between the circles that saw the rookie stretch out his stick and knock a puck into the back of the net while splayed out on the ice. The Eagles would head to the second intermission with a commanding 4-0 lead.
Colorado would continue to heat up in the third with Mychan connecting on his second goal of the night by burying a rebound in front of the net to extend the advantage to 5-0. Less than three minutes later Zarbo fielded a puck at center ice, sliced into the zone and laced a shot past Rumpel from the circle to make it 6-0 Colorado with 16:18 remaining. Mychan would complete the hat trick with his second power-play goal of the evening to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead with 8:42 left to play in regulation. The goal would also chase Rumpel from net, giving way to fellow goaltender Riley Gill.
Allen would finally find a goal of their own with 3:20 remaining, as forward Ian Schultz roofed home a puck during a net-mouth scramble to put the Americans on the board and making it 7-1 Colorado. Eagles defenseman Giffen Nyren would cap off a four-point night of his own with just 1:40 left in the third when he blew home a shot from between the circle past Gill, solidifying the Eagles 8-1 victory.
Mychan, Zarbo, Isackson, Nyren and defenseman Jake Marto all registered multi-point games, while DeSerres turned aside 29 of the 30 shots he faced in the win. Colorado went 2-for-5 on the powerplay, while holding Allen 0-for-6 on the man-advantage.
The Eagles continue conclude their three-game roadtrip with a Sunday matinee game against the Americans in Allen, Texas at 3:05pm mountain time.
