IceMen Top Nailers with Short-Handed Overtime Goal
November 14, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Evansville IceMen News Release
Against his former team, Daultan Leveille provided the heroics for the Evansville IceMen Saturday night at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, WV. Leveille buried a short-handed goal with 1:18 left in overtime to give the IceMen a 2-1 win over the Wheeling Nailers.
Rookie Alex Wideman gave Evansville the 1-0 lead at 12:10 of the first period when Andrew Himelson picked off a Wheeling pass and led a 3-on-2 rush in transition. Himelson slid a pass across the crease for Wideman who tapped his second career goal past Nailers goalie Brian Foster.
The IceMen carried that lead through the rest of the period and a scoreless second frame, before Wheeling tied the game 6:05 into the third. Off of a face-off win in the Evansville zone, Adam Krause tipped a Danny Fick shot from the point past IceMen goalie Christoffer Bengtsberg.
Bengtsberg stopped 30 saves in the win, and assisted on the game-winning goal in overtime. With the IceMen short-handed, Bengtsberg made a save, skated the puck into the face-off circle and dropped it to the ice for Leveille. The former Nailer then skated the full length of the ice, split the Wheeling defense and slid the winning goal past Foster.
The two teams meet one more time at 4:05pm EDT Sunday at WesBanco Arena, before Evansville returns home for three games next week. Coverage starts at 3:50 (2:50 in Evansville) on www.evansvilleicemen.com and ECHL.TV.
