Altshuller Stops 21, Shuts out Steelheads

Idaho Steelheads News Release
Estero, FL - Daniel Altshuller made 21 saves for the Florida Everblades (11-4-0), as the Steelheads (4-7-3) were shutout for the first time this season, falling 3-0 at Germain Arena.
The scoreless outing ends Steelheads forward Rob Linsmayers' career-long points streak at eight games and extends the Steelheads' winless streak to six consecutive games, going 0-4-2 over that time.
The Everblades have outscored opponents 20-7 in the first period this season, but for the second straight night Idaho went to the dressing room for the first intermission in good shape, tied 0-0. Florida opened the scoring at 7:18 of the second period, however, when Matt Willows, who scored twice on Friday including the overtime winner, drove behind the Steelhead net and left the puck outside the right post. Corey Cowick had three attempts at the loose puck, shoving the third try under the pad of Maxime Lagace to put the Everblades in front.
Corey Syvret extended that lead with a power play marker just 4:07 later. After an offensive zone slashing penalty by Andre Morrissette, the Everblades' top-ranked power play took only seven seconds to thread a pass from the left wing corner to the top of the right circle, where Syvret snuck down and beat Lagace with a wrist shot. Werek had two assists on the night and four in two games against Idaho.
John DiSalvatore's empty-netter wrapped up the scoring for Florida in the final minute of the third. It's the first time the Steelheads have been shutout since April 27th, Game 6 of last year's playoff series with Utah.
The six-game winless streak is the Steelheads' longest such stretch since the team went 0-8-2 from Feb 14 to March 3rd in the 2011-12 season. The Steelheads face the Colorado Eagles at Budweiser Events Center on Wednesday, with puck-drop scheduled for 7:05pm MT.
They are 28-11-4 all-time against the Eagles.

Play of the Game:
The Steelheads were hanging tough against the high-powered offense of the Everblades, mostly by keeping the game at 5-on-5. Morrissette's offensive zone penalty, however, gave the Everblades another offensive opportunity shortly after they had taken the lead. The Florida power play was quick and lethal to set up the Syrvret score, giving the Everblades the 2-0 lead late in the second. With the Everblades 8-0-0 when leading after two periods, that left a steep hill for Idaho to climb in their third game in three nights.
