Madore Denies Stingrays to Give Orlando a 2-1 Shootout Win

South Carolina Stingrays News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC-Orlando goaltender Rob Madore stopped 29 shots, including a two-on-none rush in overtime, to lead the Solar Bears to a 2-1 shootout victory over the South Carolina Stingrays at the North Charleston Coliseum Saturday night. Madore denied all three South Carolina shootout attempts to help the Solar Bears split a weekend series with the Stingrays.

The Stingrays found themselves with the best chance to earn the victory in overtime. Forwards Andrew Rowe and Derek DeBlois had a two-on-zero breakaway from the red line. The two noted goal scorers passed back and forth, before DeBlois finally shot from the right side. Madore sprawled across and made the save of the game to extend the contest to a shootout.

Denver Manderson scored the lone goal of the shootout in the first round, sneaking a shot through the five-hole of Stingrays netminder Vitek Vanecek. From that point on, the goaltenders stood tall, with Madore stopping Austin Fyten in the third round to secure the win.

Both goaltenders were strong in the effort. Vanecek stopped 22 shots and allowed two or less goals for his eighth straight appearance.

Brendan Ellis scored South Carolina's lone goal of the game midway through the first period. South Carolina forward David Pacan won a face-off in the offensive zone. Jared Staal knocked the puck back to Ellis at the left point. The defender's slapshot found it's way past Madore at 10:57.

In the second period, the Solar Bears would even the score on the power play. Brett Findlay scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season courtesy of great passing at 11:38. The forward camped in the slot and snapped a quick wrist shot past the glove of Vanecek to make it 1-1.

The Stingrays three-game winning streak was snapped with the shootout loss. South Carolina is now 7-5-2 on the season.

The Stingrays begin a 10 game road trip on Friday night in Greenville. The team returns home on December 12 for Hockey Heroes for Epilepsy Night featuring specility jereys and a Cool Ray Bobblehead Giveaway. Santa will also be in attendance for the holidays.
