Maxwell Scores Twice But Aces Drop Shootout
November 14, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA - Tyler Maxwell scored twice to get the Aces to overtime, but Alaska lost in a shootout to the Indy Fuel 4-3 Saturday at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
Maxwell scored on a sharp angle from the right wing corner just 1:19 into the first period to give the Aces (4-8-0-2) the lead. That lead lasted until the 8:09 mark of the period when Kyle Stroh pushed a short range rebound of his shot through the pads of Troy Redmann into the net.
Indy (7-3-1-0) got the only goal of the second period at 6:43 as Cody Sharib found the back of the net to make it a 2-1 Fuel lead after two.
In the third, Maxwell turned a ghastly Indy defensive zone turnover into the game-tying goal, rifling a wrister past Mac Carruth at 1:04.
That would be it for the rest of the third period, and regulation time ended with the game tied at 2.
The 3-3 overtime would prove entertaining, with the Aces enjoying a handful of great opportunities, only to be turned away by Carruth. Indy was stonewalled by Redmann in a couple tries.
On to the shootout where Tyler Maxwell, Tim Coffman, Joe Perry and Stephen Perfetto came up empty against Carruth, while Alex Lavoie, Kyle Stroh and Garett Bembridge missed on their attempts to get the puck past Redmann.
Indy's Daniel Ciampini ended the shootout, deking Redman to his left, and tucking the puck around his right leg pad into the net.
Carruth ended the night with 27 saves. Redmann finished with 31 saves.
Alaska's road trip through the Midwest continues Tuesday morning in Cincinnati at 6:30am AST against the Cyclones.
The Aces return home for a three-game series with Evansville starting Friday, November 27. Get your tickets by stopping by the Aces ticket office Monday through Friday from 9-5 at 15th and Gambell, or go online at www.alaskaaces.com.
