(SCHAUMBURG, Illinois) - Starting pitcher Bryce Morrow pitched six scoreless innings as Evansville topped the Schaumburg Boomers 4-0 on Tuesday night.

Bryce Morrow worked in to a jam in the first inning. He allowed a walk and hit two consecutive batters, only to get the next three outs and not allow a run.

The Otters hopped ahead for the edge in the next inning when designated hitter Luir Uribe hit a leadoff double. He scored a few batters later on a wild pitch from starter Cameron Roth.

Ahead 1-0, Evansville extended their lead in the third with an RBI single from outfielder Matt Sheely.

Morrow kept Schaumburg from scoring over his 6.0 innings pitched, limiting the Boomers to just three hits.

In the seventh, Evansville would receive a leadoff double from infielder Steve Marino and he would score a few batters later on a double play.

Reliever David Kubiak then tried to maintain the 3-0 lead that was tested in the bottom of the seventh. He loaded the bases with one out, only to retire Nate Baumann and Frank Pfister to end the threat.

Evansville responded in the next inning with a pinch-hit run-producing double from Frank Martinez.

Kubiak would hold the 4-0 lead over the final few innings, earning the save in the shutout victory.

Evansville improves to 40-44 with the win, claiming their first 40-win season since 2006, their last championship winning season. Schaumburg drops to 48-37 in the loss.

Sheely, Marino, and infielder Luis Parache all recorded two hits in the victory.

Morrow (7-7) lowered his earned run average to 4.09 in the win as Roth (8-8) surrendered three runs in 6.2 innings. Kubiak also secured his second save of the season.

The Evansville Otters will go for the series win on Wednesday afternoon with a 1:00 p.m. CDT first pitch at Schaumburg Boomers Stadium. Left-hander Matt Crim (3-8, 4.30 ERA) will start for Evansville against righty Alex Rivers (3-3, 5.80).
