(Florence, KY) - Stephen Cardullo singled up the middle off Chase Doremus to score Eddie Rodriguez in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Joliet Slammers (35-50) fell by a score of 4-3 to the Florence Freedom (47-38) Tuesday night.

It marks the seventh straight loss for Joliet and puts their all-time record against the Freedom at 0-10.

Early on, things were looking good for the Slammers as they scored three times in the second inning. David Christensen got things started with an infield single. Kyle Maunus smacked his eighth home run of the season and just like that it was 2-0 Joliet. Then with two away Matt Mirabal drew a walk. Kyle Zimmerman singled and Patrick Norris singled home Mirabal to make the score 3-0.

Steven Maxwell was brilliant for Joliet, tossing eight plus innings but would end up with a no-decision. The only runs the Freedom managed off Maxwell were via solo homers. Rodriguez hit a solo home run in the seventh to make the score 3-1 and David Harris started the ninth inning with a home run of his own to cut the Joliet lead to 3-2. Maxwell struck out eight batters and only walked one in his start.

After the Harris homer to start the ninth, the Slammers brought in Geoff Brown (1-3). Brown walked Junior Arrojo but got Peter Fatse to fly out to right. Arrojo would steal second and score the tying run on a Rodriguez bloop single that was just out of the reach of second baseman Abel Nieves. Brown walked Drew Rundle to put runners at first and second with one out in a tie game. Doremus came in and got Jim Jacquot to hit into a fielder's choice, putting runners at the corners. The Slammers intentionally walked the left-handed hitting John Malloy to get to the right-handed hitting Cardullo. But Cardullo made them pay with a hot smash up the gut to win the game for Florence.

Joliet will try to bounce back Wednesday night as they send Jacob Sanchez (4-1, 1.93 ERA) to the mound. First pitch is at 6:05 p.m. Central Time and all the action can be heard on AM 1340 WJOL and www.wjol.com .

The Joliet Slammers are members of the Frontier League of Professional Baseball. The Frontier League is the oldest continuously operating independent professional league, in its 20th season in 2012. For more information about the Frontier League visit www.frontierleague.com .
