Gateway Grizzlies News Release
CRESTWOOD, IL - Every single starter had at least one hit in the Gateway Grizzlies 7-4 victory against the Windy City ThunderBolts Tuesday night at Standard Bank Stadium.
Gateway (49-36) collected 12 hits as a team, including three home runs. Despite the win and the offensive outburst, the Grizzlies struck out a season-high 19 times, with every starter striking out at least once.
The win helped the Grizzlies move into a tie for first place in the Frontier League West Division with the ThunderBolts.
Windy City (49-36) got off to a great start against Gateway starter, Chris Enourato. Chad Cregar and Ryan Cuneo had first inning RBI doubles to give the ThunderBolts a 2-0 advantage.
ThunderBolts starter Mike Recchia (11-3) struck out the first six Grizzlies batters he faced before Gateway scored four runs on four hits in the third. Richie Jimenez Jr. drove in a run on a single, Jonathan Jonathan collected an RBI single and Rogelio Noris blasted a two-run home run to give the Grizzlies the lead for good.
Recchia went on to strike out 15 batters, which was one shy of his season-high. Landon Hernandez and Jon Myers hit solo home runs in the fourth and sixth innings, while Alex Guthrie capped off the Grizzlies scoring with an RBI single.
Right-hander Phillip Reamy (5-2) got the win with two and two thirds scoreless innings. Richard Barrett pitched a scoreless ninth to notch his 15th save of the season.
Gateway and Windy City are back to action Wednesday night. Right-hander Paul Tremlin (5-3) makes the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05 CT.
