Moose Drop Three Games In Week 13
January 5, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose earned three out of eight possible points in Week 13, dropping their first two games this season to the Rochester Americans and one to the Calder Cup Champion Chicago Wolves. The Moose won their first overtime game this year against the Wolves on New Year's Eve, when former Wolves winger Guilluame Desbiens netted the game winner two-minutes into extra-time. Manitoba also dropped their second shootout decision on Jan. 3/08 vs. Rochester after using 10 shooters.
Tuesday, December 30, 2008: Manitoba 2, Chicago 6
Even though the Moose were the first to score on Tuesday night, the Wolves responded with six of their own to earn a 6-2 victory over the home team in front of 7581 fans at the MTS Centre. This loss extended Manitoba's winless streak to four consecutive games, the longest the club has faced this season. Maxime Fortunus and Mario Bliznak scored the two Moose goals, while Karl Goehring and Julien Ellis both saw ice time in the loss.
Wednesday, December 31, 2008: Manitoba 2, Chicago 1 (OT)
The Manitoba Moose closed out 2008 with an exciting New Year's Eve performance at the MTS Centre on Wednesday afternoon in front of 11,952 spectators. After a 6-2 loss to the Chicago Wolves on Tuesday night, the Moose battled harder and forced overtime to beat the Wolves 2-1. Maxime Fortunus scored the only goal in regulation time to earn second star honors, while former Wolves winger Guillaume Desbiens netted the overtime decider to earn first star of the game.
Friday, January 2, 2009: Manitoba 1, Rochester 2
In their first game of 2009, Manitoba was defeated by the Rochester Americans 2-1 for the first time this season at the MTS Centre. Michel Ouellet collected the only Moose goal, while Winnipegger Jacob Micflickier netted the game winner for the Amerks.
Saturday, January 3, 2009: Manitoba 2, Chicago 3 (SO)
Both Team Canada and the Canada-clad Manitoba Moose forced a shootout on Saturday night, but unlike the 2009 World Junior Hockey win, the Moose were defeated by the Rochester Americans, 3-2 after 10 shooters. One shorthanded goal and one powerplay goal, both courtesy of Michel Ouellet, were the only regulation goals scored by the Moose, while Jason Krog was the only shooter to score twice in the shootout. Karl Goehring blocked 14 shots in his 22nd game of the season.
Moose Notes
DONE LIKE DECEMBER: At the conclusion of Wednesday's 2-1 overtime victory over Chicago, the Moose closed out the month of December with a 7-6-0-1 record and with 15 of 28 possible points (.535). Last season, Manitoba played 12 games in the final month of the year with a 6-5-0-1 record for 13 of 24 possible points (.542). Manitoba's best-ever December was in 2004-05 when the team went 6-3-1-0 for a .650 win percentage, and the club's worst year-ending performance was in 2001-02, when the team earned 17 of 32 points to finish .531.
NEW DUDS MAKE DEBUT: For the first time this season, Manitoba wore an alternate jersey on Jan. 3/08 vs. Rochester. Saturday's 'Team Canada' jersey salutes Canada's national hockey teams. Last season's Moose squad wore an alternate jersey in four games, including earning a 3-2 victory over the Americans during the club's Team Canada salute on Jan.5/08. Later this season, the Moose will once again wear alternate jerseys on Old Time/Minor Hockey Night (Feb. 28/09) and Military Tribute Night (Mar. 7/09). Unlike the 2009 World Junior Hockey shootout win on Saturday night, the Moose lost in a shootout, after 10 shooters, 3-2 to the Americans.
Upcoming Opponent
The Moose continue their home stand on Tuesday, January 6th and Wednesday, January 7th against the Hartford Wolf Pack. Manitoba has not faced Hartford since 2002 and holds a 4-3-1-1 record over the team.
