This week's games

The Houston Aeros carry a 17-15-1-6 record and a fourth place tie in the West Division into the week which will cross the halfway point of the season. Houston plays their 40th game of the season on Wednesday and a three-in-three this weekend to round out the longest road trip of the season. The trip will total eight games in 12 days, ending this Sunday.

The Aeros visit the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Wednesday at 6 p.m.CST to cross the half-way threshold of the season. The contest at the Arena at Harbor Yard is the second and final meeting of the season between the clubs. The first, November 16 in Houston, was a 3-2 shootout loss for the Aeros. Krys Kolanos - currently with the Minnesota Wild - netted both goals for the Aeros and Corey Locke posted two assists in the game.

Friday will be the second and final matchup between the Aeros and the Hershey Bears. The 6 p.m. game is also the second ever regular season game between the clubs. Houston won the first contest 6-1 after tying a franchise record with five goals in a single period on December 13. Jesse Schultz had a three-point night with one goal and two assists and Kolanos also putting up three points on a pair of goals and one assist.

Houston plays 35 of its final 39 regular season games against the West Division starting this Saturday with a 7:05 p.m. game against the Quad City Flames. The teams split the first two games of the season with the home team winning in each. John Scott - also currently with the Minnesota Wild - earned the game-winning goal in a 4-1 victory December 11 in Houston while Barry Brust blocked 33 of 34 shots faced.

The Aeros kicked off the 2008-09 regular season on October 11 with a 2-1 overtime victory over the Chicago Wolves and haven't faced them again, until Sunday. The 6 p.m. game in Chicago is the second of six total games against the defending Calder Cup Champions. Nolan Schaefer stopped 27 of 28 shots on net in the victory that started the season.

Week in review Houston went 1-3-0-1 last week to keep the team in a tie for fourth place at 41 points. Tomas Mojzis finished the five games last week with four points (3 goals, 1assist) including two power-play goals. Mojzis started the week with a two goal performance, one on a man-advantage, to become only the fourth Houston Aero this season to record multiple goals in a game. He followed that with another power-play goal in a 2-1 victory over Worcester. The goal came early in the first period and lasted as the only point on the board until there was less than a minute remaining in the game. Mojzis' final point of the week, an assist, came on the only Aeros' goal Sunday in Providence in a 3-1 loss.

The Houston Aeros lost to the Lake Erie Monsters 6-2 Tuesday night at Toyota Center. After fairly even play through two periods Lake Erie took control and netted five third-period goals including a short-handed marker.

Nolan Schaefer stopped 40 of 41 shots in the Houston Aeros 2-1 win over the Worcester Sharks at DCUCenter in the final game of 2008. Tomas Mojzis and Danny Irmen scored for Houston Wednesday, New Year's Eve.

In their first ever matchup, the Binghamton Senators defeated the Houston Aeros 4-0 Friday night at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena Friday. Reigning goaltender of the month Brian Elliott stopped all 21 shots for his league-leading 18th win of the season and second shutout. Houston was shutout for just the third time this season and first since November 23, 2008.

The Houston Aeros were defeated by the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 3-2 in a shootout Saturday night at WachoviaCenter. Aeros' netminder Barry Brust stopped 30 of 32 shots for Houston, but did not record the loss as Nolan Schaefer spelled him in the shootout. The Penguins came back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game in the third period and ultimately won it in a shootout on Mark Letestu's shootout winner.

The Houston Aeros were defeated 3-1 by the Providence Bruins Sunday evening at Dunkin' Donuts Center. Goaltender Tukka Rask stopped 29 of 30 shots in net for Providence and the home team won their third straight game. Jesse Schultz scored the lone goal for the Aeros and second in as many nights.
