January 5, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 17th season in the American Hockey League, announced that right wing Brock Hooton has been released from his Professional Tryout Agreement. With the move, the P-Bruins have 22 players on their roster, including 13 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders.
Hooton, 25, leaves Providence following a two-game AHL stint, where he scored one goal and finished with a plus-one rating. The third-year pro from Nanaimo, British Columbia, made his AHL debut on Saturday night in a 5-2 road win over the Springfield Falcons. Hooton then registered his first career AHL point with a goal on Sunday afternoon in a 3-1 victory against the Houston Aeros. Hooton's goal earned him third star honors for the game.
Hooton returns to the Reading Royals of the ECHL, where he began the year with 19 points (9g, 10a) in 28 games. He is in his second season with Reading after turning pro in 2006-07 with the Phoenix Roadrunners. Hooton set career-bests across the board with 26 goals, 33 assists, 59 points and 26 penalty minutes in 71 games for the Royals in 2007-08 before adding 10 points (6g, 4a) in 13 postseason contests.
In his career, Hooton has 102 points (44g, 58a) in 132 regular season games, all but two spent in the ECHL.
Prior to beginning his professional career, Hooton played four seasons for the St. Cloud State Huskies, where he totaled 62 points (19g, 43a) in 143 games from 2002-06. The forward was drafted by the Ottawa Senators 150th overall in the fifth round of the 2002 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
Providence Bruins season tickets, Flex Tix packages and single game tickets are on sale now for the 2008-09 season. To purchase tickets or to learn more information, call the P-Bruins ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or log on to the team website at providencebruins.com.
