Iowa Cubs News Release

The Chicago Cubs selected the contract of outfielder Lou Montanez from Triple-A Iowa today. To make room for Montanez on the 40-man roster, Chicago has transferred RHP Brian Schlitter to the 60-day disabled list.

Montanez was the Cubs' first-round pick and the third overall in the 2000 draft, but he has never made it to the Major League's with Chicago until now. After the 2006 season, Montanez left the Cubs' organization and joined the Baltimore Orioles. He made his Major League debut in 2008 with the Orioles. In four stints with the Orioles from 2006-2010 Montanez had a .223 batting average in 93 games played. He has 11 doubles, one triple, four home runs, and 23 RBI in 251 plate appearances.

Montanez signed a minor league deal on January 12, 2011 to rejoin the Cubs' organization. This season with Iowa, Montanez hit .369 with 11 doubles, three triples, and five home runs. He had 43 RBI through 42 games in Iowa.
