Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Taylor Teagarden tripled and scored on a costly two-out error as the Round Rock Express edged the Reno Aces 5-4 in Tuesday night's Pacific Coast League action at The Dell Diamond. The Express (27-18) snapped a four-game skid in one-run games and improved to 6-0 this season following consecutive losses. The Aces (27-19) fell to 2-4 on its current road trip.
With one out in the sixth, Brad Nelson hit a game-tying solo homer to right-center. Teagarden followed with a triple into the right-field corner but was still there with two outs and Joey Butler on first by virtue of a walk. Esteban German then reached on Reno third baseman Andy Tracy's fielding error, allowing Teagarden to score the eventual game-winning run.
Express relievers Michael Kirkman, Cody Eppley and Pedro Strop shut down the Aces from there. Kirkman (1-3) picked up the win, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings on one hit and no walks with two strikeouts. Eppley allowed a double and struck out one over 1.1 innings, and Pedro Strop struck out Brandon Allen to end the game after German's two-out error prolonged the game by one batter. It was Strop's first save with the Express. Starter Scott Feldman worked 5.2 innings and allowed four runs on eight hits and three walks with one strikeout.
Aces reliever Josh Ellis (0-1) took the loss; he allowed two runs - one earned - on two hits and one walk with no strikeouts over 1.0 inning. Kyler Newby was called into starting action less than two hours before first pitch when scheduled starter Zach Kroenke was scratched. Newby worked 4.2 innings and allowed three runs on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts.
Reno built a 4-0 lead through the first five innings. Konrad Schmidt's second-inning, two-run homer started the scoring. Tracy added a two-out RBI single in the third, and Collin Cowgill delivered a one-out RBI single in the fifth.
Round Rock cut the deficit to one run on one swing of the bat in the bottom of the fifth. Butler singled with one out, and Omar Quintanilla worked a two-out, full-count walk. Chris Davis followed with a three-run homer in his first game since the Rangers optioned him to Round Rock. It was his fifth home run with the Express this season and first since a three-homer game April 9 against Iowa.
Teagarden was 2-for-4 for the Express, while Butler was 2-for-3. Cowgill paced the Aces, going 3-for-5; Cole Gillespie and Cody Ransom each had two hits.
Round Rock and Reno continue the four-game series Wednesday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch. Right-hander Seth McClung (2-0, 3.92 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express, while right-hander Matt Torra (2-0, 5.00 ERA) is listed for the Aces.
