Cleveland Monsters News Release
CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Monsters, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, were defeated by the Rochester Americans on Wednesday night at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, NY by a final score of 5-2. With the loss, the Monsters dropped to 7-5-1-0 overall this season and with a .577 points percentage, remain alone in second place in the AHL's North Division standings.
Rochester got the scoring started, jumping ahead 2-0 thanks to a pair of even-strength goals from Justin Bailey at 18:11 set-up by Taylor Fedun, and then from Zach Redmond at 19:17 of the frame on an assist from Dalton Smith.
In the middle period, Bailey picked up his second goal of the night at 14:05 courtesy of feeds from Andrew MacWilliam and Alexander Nylander to push the Rochester lead to 3-0. Cleveland's Sonny Milano responded with his first tally of the season just moments later at 14:16 on an assist from Monsters captain Nathan Gerbe, trimming the Americans lead to 3-1.
Two goals from Wayne Simpson in the third and final frame at 10:12 and 13:17 put the game out of reach for Cleveland, 5-1. Gerbe closed the scoring with his second tally of the season, an even-strength marker at 19:28 from Blake Siebenaler to seal Rochester's 5-2 victory.
Cleveland goaltender Jean-Francois Berube stopped 34 of 39 shots faced to fall to 3-5-1 on the season, while Americans backstop Scott Wedgewood stopped 24 of the 26 pucks he faced, improving to 6-3-0 on the year.
