Asheville Tourists News Release
Asheville, NC-- Over 3,000 screaming children helped lead the Asheville Tourists to victory over the Lakewood BlueClaws 5-1 on Monday morning at McCormick Field. The first of three education days this season was filled with great pitching and David Dahl Home Runs. The Tourists centerfield belted two in the game.
Asheville took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Correlle Prime led off with a double, went to third on Jordan Patterson's groundball to the right side of the infield, and scored on Michael Benjamin's groundout to short.
Lakewood tied the game 1-1 in the fourth. Williams Astudillo and Dylan Cozens executed a hit and run beautifully. Astudillo doubled to right-center and Cozens scored from first. That was the only blemish to Tourists' starting pitcher Antonio Senzatela who worked seven innings for the win.
Dahl made it 3-1 with a two-out, two-run Homer in the fifth. In the sixth, the Tourists pulled off a double-steal to score a run. The next inning, Dahl concluded the scoring with his second round- tripper of the game; a solo shot to right-center.
Carlos Estevez and Trent Daniel each tossed a perfect inning in relief of Senzatela and the Tourists held on or the win; despite recording a season low five hits in the game.
The Tourists finished their homestand 5-2 and split their four-game series with the BlueClaws at two games apiece. Asheville has an off day Tuesday before embarking on a seven-game road trip that begins Wednesday evening in Lexington.
