Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

PREVIEW: The Shorebirds lost their second in a row to the Charleston RiverDogs, a 3-0 shutout on Sunday evening. This was the fourth time that Delmarva has been shut out in the last ten games. Delmarva will turn to their ace Hunter Harvey to come away with a series split.

TODAY'S OPPONENT: Brady Lail will start the series finale for Charleston. The right-hander has gone 3-1 with a 4.05 ERA for the RiverDogs so far in 2014. He has not faced Delmarva this year, unlike the previous starters in this series. Lail has won his last two starts, including seven shutout innings against the Augusta GreenJackets on Tuesday. The 20-year-old pitched for the GCL Yan- kees last year, though he also made two appearances in Tampa (High-A). The New York Yankees selected Lail in the 18th round of the 2012 MLB Draft out of high school in Utah.

19TH SEASON: The 2014 season marks the 19th season of Shorebirds baseball on the Eastern Shore and 18th straight year as a Baltimore Orioles affiliate. The Shorebirds' first season was 1996 as a Montreal Expos farm team.

ORIOLES WATCH: The Baltimore Orioles lost the game and series to Minnesota with a 5-2 defeat on Sunday afternoon. Former Charleston RiverDog Phil Hughes earned the win for the Twins. The O's fell back to 15-14 on the season, but they are still just 1/2 game out of first place in the AL East behind the New York Yankees.

THE IRON IS HOT: 20 out of the 25 players on the Shorebirds active roster appeared for the Ab- erdeen IronBirds in 2013. The IronBirds put together an impressive season, making the playoffs for the first time in their 12-year franchise history. Aberdeen won the McNamara Division in the New York-Penn League with a 40-32 record. The IronBirds lost in the first round of the NYPL play- offs, losing 2 games to 0 against the Tri-City Valley Cats.
