
Danish Named SAL Pitcher of the Week

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (May 5, 2014) - The South Atlantic League has named Kannapolis Intimidators starting pitcher Tyler Danish the SAL Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 28-May 4, 2014. Danish went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA (0 ER/12 IP) in two starts, striking out nine and walking two. Danish, 19, opened his week by blanking the West Virginia Power over 6.0 innings of work on April 29 in the first game of a doubleheader at CMC-NorthEast Stadium. The Intimidators went on to win, 1-0. The right-hander followed that performance with another strong start on Sunday, May 4, against Hickory. He limited the Crawdads to one hit over six innings, opening his night with four perfect frames on his way to a third win in six starts this season.
The White Sox selected Danish in the second round (55th overall) in the June 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Durant High School in Plant City, Fla. He made his professional debut in 2013 with Advanced Rookie Bristol and Class A Kannapolis. This season, Danish is 3-0 with a 0.84 ERA (3 ER/32 IP) in six starts, boasting the second-best ERA in the league and fifth-best WHIP (1.00).
This is the first weekly plaudit for an Intimidators player in 2014. The last Kannapolis pitcher to earn SAL Pitcher of the Week honors was Blair Walters for the week of May 14-21, 2012.
The Kannapolis Intimidators are in the 20th season of professional baseball in Kannapolis and the team's 14th as the Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. Since the team moved to Kannapolis in 1995, 77 players that have played in Kannapolis have gone on to the Major Leagues.
