Hagerstown Suns News Release
About last game... The Hagerstown Suns (21-7) slugged their way to a 10-8 win over the Lexington Legends (12-18) on Sunday evening at Municipal Stadium. The teams combined for 22 hits and seven errors in the ball game.
The biggest hit for Hagerstown was a three-run homerun off the bat of DH Wilson Ramos. Ramos is the Washington Nationals starting catcher who is currently on the disabled.
Sunday was Ramos' first rehab start with the Suns, and he played six innings and finished the game 2-3 with a walk.
The three-run homerun by Ramos put Hagerstown ahead 4-1 in the third inning. The next half-inning Lexington came within a run thanks to a two-run homerun by CF Alfredo Escalera. It was his first long ball of the season and made it 4-3.
In the bottom of the fourth the Suns responded with their second straight three-run frame to go up 7-3. First baseman John Wooten led off the inning with a solo homerun over the center field wall, his second homer of the year. An error and a sacrifice fly resulted in the other two runs in the inning.
Hagerstown went ahead 8-3 in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by 2B Willie Medina. The final two Suns runs scored in the sixth. With the bases loaded and no one out 3B Drew Ward grounded into a force out at second to drive a run in. Then next hitter, RF Estarlin Martinez, hit a sacrifice fly to left to bring in SS Wilmer Difo.
Lexington had scored two runs in the top of the sixth thanks to a bases loaded hit batsman and a bases loaded walk. The final three runs for the Legends came over the next two innings and were all unearned.
Starting RHP Lucas Giolito (2-0) threw five innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out five to earn the win. Starting LHP Cody Reed (0-2) suffered the loss for Lexington. He went four innings and allowed seven runs (four earned) on five hits and three walks while striking out one. RHP Ryan Ullmann pitched the final 3.2 innings for Hagerstown to record his third save in three opportunities this season.
On the Mound... LHP Hector Silvestre will be heading to the hill tonight for the Suns. He is making his fourth start and appearance this season. He last threw on May 1 at home against Hickory, going 2.2 innings without allowing a run, while giving up two hits and striking out one.
Overall this year Silvestre has pitched 8.2 innings and has allowed two earned runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out eight. Tonight is his third start at home this season. Silvestre was named a GCL post-season All-Star last year after finishing 7-0 with a 1.82 ERA in 13 games (eight starts). He stands 6'3", 180 pounds and is 21-years old. Tonight he goes up against LHP Matt Tenuta for Lexington. Tenuta is making his sixth start and appearance this season. He last pitched April 29 at home against Lakewood, lasting five innings and surrendering eight runs (six earned) on 11 hits while walking one and striking out two. Tonight is Tenuta's fourth start on the road this season. He is 2-0 away from home with a 0.96 ERA. Overall this year he has tossed 29.2 innings and has given up 11 runs (nine earned) on 29 hits while walking seven and striking out 21.
