Power a Run Short in Morning Game

(Greensboro, NC- May 5, 2014)- The West Virginia Power lost 2-1 against the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Monday at NewBridge Bank Park. Greensboro took three out of four from West Virginia in the series with all four games being decided by just one run.

The Grasshoppers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Justin Bohn doubled to start the inning and scored three pitches later on a triple by Austin Dean. Greensboro starter Matt Milroy held that lead over the next four innings, going five complete and limiting the Power to just two hits and two walks.

Power starter Cody Dickson threw five innings as well, allowing the one run on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks. The Grasshoppers added a second run against the Power bullpen in the bottom of the seventh inning.

In the eight, West Virginia tallied its lone run on two hits. Danny Collins singled and scored three batters later on a Justin Maffei fielder's choice. The Power had the tying run in scoring position in the ninth before Esmerling De La Rosa induced a ground out and a pop out to end the game with Reese McGuire stranded one third.

Dickson (2-4) took the loss while Milroy (4-1) earned the win. De La Rosa picked up the save in his South Atlantic League debut. West Virginia managed a series-low five hits and finished their nine game, seven day road trip with four wins.

The Power have Tuesday off and return home to host Savannah in a three game series starting with a Grand Slam School Day on Wednesday morning at 10:30 am.
