LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
Vs. Philadelphia (11/7): The Manchester Monarchs picked up a point as they fell to the Philadelphia Phantoms in a 3-2 shootout at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. Right wing Teddy Purcell scored the lone shootout goal for the Monarchs as center Jared Ross and defenseman Nate Guenin found the back of the net for the Phantoms. Right wing Bud Holloway tallied his third goal of the season and center Marty Murray netted his first goal of the season for Manchester. Defenseman Danny Syvret and center Jonathan Matsumoto found the back of the net for Philadelphia. Monarchs' goaltender Jonathan Bernier (1-1-2) took his second shootout loss of the season stopping 31-of-33 shots. Phantoms' netminder Scott Munroe (4-1-0) earned his fourth victory with 33 saves. Manchester went 1-for-5 with the man advantage. Philadelphia was 2-for-5 on the power play.
Vs. Chicago (11/9): Left wing Matt Moulson scored his first two goals of the season but the Manchester Monarchs fell to the reigning Calder Cup champion Chicago Wolves with a 3-2 shootout loss in front of 5,008 fans at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Sunday evening. Manchester was held scoreless in the shootout while right wing Junior Lessard and center Riley Holzapfel scored for Chicago in the shootout. Lessard and left wing Brett Sterling scored in regulation to equal Moulson's two goals. Monarchs' goaltender Jonathan Quick took the shootout loss with 32 saves. Wolves' netminder Robert Gherson earned the victory with 30 saves. Manchester went 1-for-7 on the power play. Chicago was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES
Manchester is ranked seventh in the Atlantic Division after 10 games with a record of 2-5-0-3 and seven points.
The Monarchs are ranked 27th in the AHL on the power play. The team is 6-for-62 with the man advantage for a 9.7-percent rating.
Manchester is ranked 24th in the AHL on the penalty kill. The team has stopped their opponent 47 times on 59 opportunities for a 79.7-percent rating.
Manchester is undefeated in regulation on Fridays this season. The Monarchs are 2-0-0-1 on Fridays.
When the Monarchs score first, they gain a point. Manchester is 2-0-0-3 in the five games where they have scored first.
Center Gabe Gauthier (2-7=9) leads the Monarchs in scoring with nine points. His two assists in Sunday's 3-2 shootout loss to Chicago ended a four game scoring drought.
Gauthier's collected seven points in the first five games of the season.
Gauthier is ranked in seventh place on the Monarchs all-time assist list with 72 assists in 140 games. He moved past right wing Brad Smyth (70) and defenseman Tomas Zizka (71) with his two assists on Sunday. He is also ranked 10th on the Monarchs all-time goals list with 39 tallies and ninth in scoring with 111 points.
Left wing Trevor Lewis (2-6=8) ranks second on the Monarchs after 10 games with two goals and six assists for eight points.
Lewis has scored a point in six out of the 10 games he has played in this season.
Right wing David Meckler leads the Monarchs in scoring with four goals in 10 games.
Left wing Vladimir Dravecky's three-game assist streak came to an end on Sunday when he was held off the scoreboard. He collected four assists in three games for his longest point streak in a Monarchs uniform.
Dravecky is ranked fourth on the Monarchs with one goal and five assists for six points.
Dravecky leads the Monarchs with a plus/minus rating of plus-5.
Reigning AHL Rookie of the Year right Teddy Purcell is ranked fifth on the Monarchs with five points (3-2=5) in 10 games.
Defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov ranks second on the squad with a plus/minus rating of plus-4.
Right wing Kevin Westgarth's team leading 51 penalty minutes are tied for ninth place in the AHL.
Left wing Matt Moulson scored his first two goals of the season in the Monarchs 3-2 shootout loss to Chicago on Sunday. Moulson, assigned from Los Angeles to Manchester on Monday, November 3, has two goals in two games.
