Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose finished on top of a 5-1 decision and stole two-points from the Rochester Americans on Monday night, earning their fourth win over the club this season. Jason Jaffray netted two goals, extending his point streak to eight-games, while Karl Goehring had a nearly flawless night stopping 24 of 25 shots.

Manitoba started Monday night's divisional battle with Karl Goehring in net, opposite Americans netminder Chris Beckford-Tseu. The Moose ensured Beckford-Tseu wouldn't have an easy start, as Jason Jaffray fired the second shot of the game into the home net a mere 2:50 seconds into the first frame.

At 10:10 the Amerks knotted the score when Michael Duco hammered the puck top-shelf over Goehring to close the gap at one.

Twenty-eight seconds later, a hooking call directed to Rochester gave the Moose the first man-advantage of the night. Three-seconds after the power play timed-out James Neal snapped the puck over Beckford-Tseu's blocker to regain the lead, 2-1.

The Americans power play line-up made their debut at 17:43 with Alexandre Bolduc serving time for holding. The home-team didn't capitalize on the five-on-four but they finished the period outshooting the Moose 11-7.

A hooking infraction five minutes into the second resulted in Manitoba's second power play of the game. The club was unable to extend its lead and soon went on the penalty kill for the second time thanks to a hooking sentence to defenseman Shaun Heshka.

Rochester was unable to crack Goehring in the short two-minutes and the clubs went back to even-strength with five-minutes left in the middle stanza.

As Manitoba narrowed the shot-gap by testing Beckford-Tseu, forwards Darryl Bootland and Tanner Glass took a break from the offensive pursuit to drop their gloves near the penalty boxes. Bootland dominated the scrap and both players were penalized with five-minute fighting majors.

The Moose would be the next to hit the scoreboard as Jaffray netted his second of the night, with help from Lawrence Nycholat and Mark Cullen, to give the Moose some cushion room with a two goal lead.

Rochester's hooking penalty kept the Moose on the offensive through the early part of the third. The visiting Manitoban's increased their shot-lead to 16 on the man-advantage which quickly translated into an extended goal-lead when Cullen netted his first of the night.

With Bolduc in the sin-bin for high-sticking the Moose penalty killers were tested in the final minutes of the game. Guillaume Desbiens broke through Rochester's defense for a break-away opportunity and discovered the back of the net earning Manitoba's first short-handed goal of the season.

The Moose finished the game trailing 27-25 in shots but took the victory with a final score of 5-1.
