Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose extended their winning streak to nine-games Friday night with a win over Rochester, but saw it come to an end in Syracuse on Saturday as the Moose failed to beat the Crunch, 6-3. Manitoba had not lost a game since their season-opening weekend series against the Hamilton Bulldogs, and this loss marks only their third of the season (9-3-0-0).
Friday, November 7, 2008: Manitoba 5, Rochester 1
Twelve Moose players racked up points on Friday night helping Manitoba edge Rochester 5-1, winning all three games over the Americans this season. Four unanswered goals and 26 saves from Cory Schneider propelled the Moose over the Amerks and extended their winning streak to nine consecutive games.
Saturday, November 8, 2008: Manitoba 3, Syracuse 6
The Moose and Crunch sat neck-and-neck throughout 40-minutes of play, but three third period goals would confirm a 6-3 victory for Syracuse. The loss halted Manitoba's nine-game winning streak and would mark the fifth time the Moose have been outshot this season, 35-26.
Moose Notes
ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO AN END: Manitoba's nine-game winning streak came to a sudden halt Saturday night as the team fell to the Syracuse Crunch 6-3. This winning-streak was the longest of the season and Saturday night's loss was just the third this season for the Moose and first since their second game of the campaign. The franchise record for the longest consecutive winning streak is 10 games, which has been accomplished twice (Oct. 18-Nov. 17/00 & Mar. 2-Mar.26/07).
SUFFERING ON THE POWER PLAY: For the sixth time already this season, the Moose were not able to capitalize on any power play opportunities against an opponent when they went 0-9 against Syracuse on Saturday. Manitoba had four minutes worth of five-on-threes and still werent able to score a goal. This drops their power play percentage to 12.7, putting them in 23rd spot in the AHL. Manitoba's penalty killing units, however, are still tops in the AHL with a 90.8% success rate.
MOOSE GO GREEN: The Moose are encouraging fans to live a greener lifestyle by hosting "Go Green" night at the MTS Centre on Friday, Nov. 14th, sponsored by Manitoba Hydro. There will be a Toyota Hybrid vehicle on the ice prior to puck drop and will later be on display for viewing in the concourse. The first 3,000 fans will receive Power Smart LED Manitoba Moose night lights and all fans will be entered to win an Eco Friendly steam washer and dryer, courtesy of Leon's. Fans are encouraged to wear green when they come out to support the Moose and the environment on Nov. 14/08 vs. the Toronto Marlies.
Upcoming Opponents
Manitoba will close out their first road trip of the season with a match-up against the Rochester Americans tonight. On Friday, the Moose are back in white and playing their first game at the MTS Centre since their Oct. 25th 5-3 victory over the Houston Aeros. The Moose will be home-bound for the rest of November with season opening double-headers against the Toronto Marlies (Nov. 14-15/08), San Antonio Rampage (Nov. 20-21/08) and Iowa Chops (Nov. 28-29/08).
Player of the Week Nominee
Jason Krog
Moose centre Jason Krog is this week's nominee for the AHL Reebok Player of the Week. Krog finished the week with three assists in two games as the Moose split the week 1-1-0-0. On Friday, Krog set up the game's opening goal on the powerplay from the point before adding another on the game's final goal by Darryl Bootland. Then on Saturday, he also set-up Bootland's fourth of the season in defeat. Krog now leads the team with seven assists and has in fact collected a point in every game he has played for the Moose this season.
