Connecticut Whale News Release
The Wolf Pack finished off a seven-game homestand, the longest in team history, by splitting a pair of games this past week, giving them a total record of 5-2-0-0 in the seven consecutive home outings. The Pack lost a 4-3 decision to the Worcester Sharks on Friday night, but then rebounded for a thrilling, 4-3 overtime victory over Springfield on Saturday evening. Lauri Korpikoski was the star of that game, as he completed his first North American pro hat trick with the game-winning goal, with less than five seconds remaining in OT. Korpikoski also tallied a goal in Friday's contest and earned a Sunday recall from the parent New York Ranger club.
This week:
The Wolf Pack start a stretch in which they play five of the next seven games, and nine of the next 12, on the road, by venturing into uncharted territory. The Wolf Pack will visit Grand Rapids for the first time ever on Friday (7:00 faceoff), and then will travel on to Cleveland for their first-ever matchup with the Lake Erie Monsters on Sunday (3:00).
Friday, November 14th at Grand Rapids (Van Andel Arena), 7:00 p.m.
- Although the Griffins have been in the AHL since the 2001-02 season, this is the first time they and the Wolf Pack have ever met.
- The Griffins are the top affiliate of the defending Stanley Cup-champion Detroit Red Wings. The last time the Wolf Pack played a Detroit affiliate was March 9, 2001, when they lost 5-3 at home to the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, a shared affiliate between the Red Wings and Anaheim.
- Grand Rapids' head coach is former Atlanta Thrashers head man Curt Fraser. He has the Griffins off to a 5-2-2-1 start in the North Division through ten games.
- 25-year-old Ville Leino, in his first season of North American pro hockey, leads Grand Rapids in points, with 4-9-13.
- Radio - live with Bob Crawford in HD on WTIC's 96.5 HD 2 and on-line at www.hartfordwolfpack.com and www.wtic.com.
Saturday, November 15th at Lake Erie (Quicken Loans Arena), 3:00 p.m.
- This is the first time the Wolf Pack have played the Monsters, who are a second-year franchise in the AHL. Lake Erie is the top affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche.
- T.J. Hensick, who played 31 NHL games with the Avalanche as a rookie last season, is currently the top point-getter on the Monsters' roster, with 6-7-13 in 10 games.
- Lake Erie is 5-6-0-1 for 11 points through its first 12 games and has lost five of its last seven, after going 3-1-0-1 through its first five.
- Radio - live with Bob Crawford in HD on WTIC's 96.5 HD 2 and on-line at www.hartfordwolfpack.com and www.wtic.com.
