WEEKEND REVIEW
The Monarchs dropped both games of a home-and-home series with the Adirondack Thunder this weekend. The Monarchs fell to Adirondack in Saturday night's game 4-2. Josh Brown made his professional debut, scoring his first career goal and winning his first fight. Joey Diamond scored the second Monarchs goal of the game, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Thunder. Sunday's contest went Adirondack's way again, this time to a 5-2 score. The Monarchs got two goals from rookie Zac Larazza, the first two of his career, but allowed three goals in the third period to take the loss.
HEADING TO ELMIRA
Saturday's game marks the first of six games the Monarchs will play at First Arena this season. The Monarchs will make their remaining visits to Elmira, N.Y., Dec. 11, Jan. 8-9 and Mar. 18-19. The Jackals are East Division rivals for the Monarchs, and currently sit tied for second place (4 pts.) in the division with the Reading Royals.
ROOKIE SCORING
Five of the six goals the Monarchs have scored this season have come off the sticks of rookies, with Zac Larazza leading the way with two goals. Larazza (1a), Josh Brown (1g), Matt Leitner (1g) and Derek Arnold (1g) each scored their first professional points in their first career games, with Arnold recording the game-winning-goal in the lone Monarchs victory.
SPECIAL TEAMS SHORTAGE
While only generating the 5th fewest (12) power play chances early into the season, the Monarchs are the only team in the ECHL without a power-play goal. On the defensive side, the Monarchs are 3rd from the bottom in terms of penalty killing percentage in the league, coming in at 71.4 %.
GETTING SOME REST
The Monarchs have the week off from playing games heading into the contest with Elmira, and the schedule remains light for the team as they don't play again until a three-game series weekend with the Brampton Beast, Nov. 6-9.
