Monarchs Game Day Capsule
March 19, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Manchester Monarchs News Release
HEAD-TO-HEAD - The Monarchs and Jackals square off for the eleventh and final time during the regular season, with the Monarchs holding a 6-3-0-1 record against their East Division rivals. If the season ended today, both teams would be in the playoff structure, with the Monarchs in the second position and the Jackals holding the eighth and final playoff spot.
WHERE WE STAND - The Monarchs (82 points) continue to hold a six point advantage in the East Division over the Adirondack Thunder, and are 12 points ahead of 4th place Elmira. The Monarchs find themselves looking up at the Toledo Walleye who currently lead the Eastern Conference with 87 points.
THERE WILL BE SHOTS - There should be no shortage of shots on net tonight, as the Monarchs continue to lead the league in shots on goal, putting an average of 34.77 shots on net each game. Elmira on the other hand averages the fifth-most shots on goal, averaging 32.11 shots on frame. Not much will have to give for the teams to reach their season averages, as the Monarchs have allowed 31.30 shots against/game this season, and Elmira averages 33.52 shots against/game, the 21st and 25th most in the league respectively.
LEADING THE LEAGUE - Despite having his 15-game point streak broken last night, Maxim Kitsyn now leads the ECHL in plus/minus rating, coming into tonight's game at +35. With the season-ending injury to Missouri Mavericks forward, Jesse Root, Kitsyn leads the category by three over South Carolina's, Joey Leach.
MAKING THEM COUNT - Alex Roach has six goals this season, but what is noteworthy, is that four of those goals have been of the game-winning variety. Roach is third amongst all ECHL defensemen with his four game-winning-goals.
OUT OF THE ORDINARY - Elmira had some fun last night in posting four goals on the Monarchs, but if averages play out, tonight should be a different story. Despite the outpouring of goals, Elmira still averages only 2.375 goals/game at home this season, the third lowest home average across the ECHL.
SCORE FIRST! - The team that scores first tonight should have a good chance at winning the game, as both teams boast incredible records when lighting the lamp first. Manchester clocks in with a .788 winning percentage when scoring the games' first goal, the seventh-best winning percentage in the league. Elmira has fared very well in this category, posting an .846 winning percentage, the third-best winning percentage in the ECHL.
CLOSE CALLS - The Monarchs and Jackals have impressive records in one-goal games this season. Manchester hold a 20-4-3-5 record in close contests while Elmira has played to a 17-4-3-1 record in such games. Manchester's 20 wins are second-most in the league in one-goal games, and the four regulation losses both teams carry are tied for the second-fewest around the ECHL.
