March 19, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kansas City Mavericks News Release
WICHITA, KS - The Missouri Mavericks dropped their first regulation game of the season against the Wichita Thunder on Saturday night, falling 4-2 at INTRUST Bank Arena.
The loss also marks a first for net-minder Josh Robinson, who had won his previous 21 starts in goal for the Mavericks-setting a new league record for single-season wins for a goaltender. He now owns an overall record of 25-1-0-1.
Wichita took a quick 2-0 lead over the Mavericks early in the opening period, scoring twice just 29 seconds apart. The Thunder would hold their 2-goal advantage until Darian Dziruzynski connected on a Missouri power-play at 14:06 of the second frame. Trevor Ludwig and Bryce Aneloski assisted on the play.
Then the Thunder scored their own power-play tally at 17:52 via Christian Isackson to reclaim the 2-goal lead.
Missouri cut in once more with another man-advantage goal when Bryce Aneloski bested net-minder David Shantz with a blast from the point at 5:05 of the final frame. Rocco Carzo and Tyler Barnes were credited with the helpers on Aneloski's seventh goal of the season.
The Thunder dealt the final blow in the last minutes of regulation on an empty net with Robinson pulled for an extra attacker.
The Mavericks threw over 40 shots on goal at Shantz, but were unable to skate away with a win over the Thunder for the first time in regulation this season.
The Mavericks get their shot at a rematch tomorrow evening at 5:05p.m. when they face the Wichita Thunder again at INTRUST Bank Arena.
