Elmira Jackals News Release

ELMIRA, NY - March 19, 2016 - The Elmira Jackals overcame two deficits, including one in the third period, to defeat the Manchester Monarchs in an overtime thriller, 4-3. Jacob MacDonald scored the game-winning goal while Chris Langkow added two goals and Zach Cohen also recorded a marker. Shane Owen is 6-0-0 in six starts with the Jackals after his 46-save performance.

The Monarchs opened the scoring at 4:52 as Robbie Donahoe's point shot deflected off of the goal post to Matt Fornataro who tapped it between Shane Owen's legs for his sixth goal of the season.

Elmira answered later in the first period as Cason Hohmann passed the puck to Guy LeBoeuf at the blue line for a wrist shot that was redirected by Zach Cohen between his legs and past Colin Stevens for his 12th goal of the season.

The Jackals took their first lead of the night at 6:22 of the second period with Chris Langkow's 11th goal of the campaign. Jacob MacDonald cleared the puck from the Jackals' end on a penalty kill and Tyler Currier outraced the Monarchs' power-play unit to the loose puck then dropped it to Chris Langkow who trailed into the zone and fired a missile top shelf for the shorthanded strike.

The Monarchs responded early in the third period with goals 26 seconds apart. First, on the power-play, Maxim Kitsyn buried a short-side top shelf shot past Owen for his team-leading 24th goal of the season. Then, Kevin Morris, who was playing in his professional debut, scored on a give-and-go two-on-one rush with Derek Arnold.

The pack clawed their way back and tied the game at 5:19 of the final frame. Cason Hohmann forced a turnover in the Manchester end and fed Allan McPherson in the slot who had the time and awareness to find Chris Langkow backdoor for the tap-in tally.

Despite back-and-forth scoring chances the tied score held as the goaltenders stole the show in the third period making consecutive breakaway saves and keeping the game knotted at three. Sixty minutes was not enough as the contest went into overtime.

The goaltenders continued to shine in the extra frame as a game-saving save from Shane Owen was followed by Colin Stevens robbing Chris Langkow with a glove save stretched out along the goal line. The game needed a hero and found it in the form of Jacob MacDonald who muscled out of the corner and powered across the crease with a forehand tuck-in past Stevens for the overtime game-winning goal with 45 seconds left in the extra session.

Shane Owen improved to 6-0-0 in six starts for the Jackals with a 46-save performance. Colin Stevens stopped 32 of 36 shots faced but was handed the tough luck loss.
