
Monarchs Close St. John's Trip with 3-2 Loss

ST. JOHN'S, NL - The Monarchs surrendered two goals in just over a minute of play in the third period as they fell to St. John's, 3-2 on Wednesday night at the Mile One Centre.
The loss ended Manchester's (24-8-3-1) streak of earning at least one point at four straight games beginning on Dec. 31. It marked its first loss in regulation to St. John's (15-16-5-1) in four games this season.
In his first game of the season with Manchester, Maxim Kitsyn gave the Monarchs a 1-0 lead at 16:09 in the first period. It was the Monarchs' first goal since the third period of their game at Springfield on Sunday.
Austen Brassard knotted the score at 1-1 when he beat Patrik Bartosak at 2:44 in the second period.
Nicolas Blanchard scored 21 seconds into the third period to give the IceCaps a 2-1 lead. Chase Balisy scored just over a minute later when he netted his eight goal of the year at 1:28.
All-Star selection Colin Miller tallied a power-play goal at 16:15 in the third to cut the lead to 3-2. It was his fifth power-play goal of the season and eighth goal overall.
Bartosak started his third consecutive game and made 22 saves on 25 shots. The Monarchs have scored two goals or less in each of his last four starts beginning on Dec. 28, with the club going 0-2-2-0 in those games.
The Monarchs return to the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night when they host Binghamton at 7 p.m. in the clubs' only meeting in Manchester this season.

* Maxim Kitsyn's goal marked his first in the AHL since Dec. 26, 2013 vs. POR. * Colin Miller leads all Monarchs defensemen with 23 points this season (8 goals, 15 assists). * Brian O'Neill picked up his team-leading 33rd assist of the season on Miller's goal. He has recorded at least one point in 11 of his last 13 games beginning on Dec. 13 (3 goals, 18 assists). * The Monarchs outshot the IceCaps, 37-25. * Tonight was Manchester's fourth loss in 21 games this season when scoring first.
