Portland Pirates News Release
Saco, ME - The Portland Pirates today announced that they have reassigned forward Greg Carey to their ECHL affiliate, the Gwinnett Gladiators. The team also announced that they have signed forward Greg Miller to a professional tryout contract for the second time this season.
Carey, a 6-foot, 195 pound right wing from Hamilton, Ontario, has played in 23 games for Portland this season, scoring one goal, four assists, and five points. The 24 year-old joined the Pirates at the end of the 2013-14 season, playing in 13 games while scoring one goal and one assist for two points.
He signed a one-year entry level contract with the Arizona Coyotes after completing a four year collegiate career with the St. Lawrence University Saints in March, 2013. He was named a Hobey Baker Award Finalist in his senior season.
Carey played five games with Gwinnett earlier this season, tallying 5-3-8. This is Carey's second reassignment to the Gladiators. He will join them in time to play for them tomorrow night when they host the South Carolina Stingrays.
Miller, a 6-foot, 195 pound center from Toronto, Ontario, joins the Pirates on a Professional Tryout Contract for the second time this season. In his first stint with Portland, Miller played six games and scored two goals and one assist for three points. He scored both goals in his last game with Portland on December 20, a 4-3 overtime win against the Worcester Sharks at the Cross Insurance Arena.
The 25 year-old second-year pro once again joins Portland from the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL. Miller is Orlando's leading scorer this season. He has 14 goals, 15 assists, 29 points, and a plus-11 rating in 25 games with the Solar Bears in 2014-15.
Miller was first signed to a professional tryout by the Pirates on December 9 and released on December 26. When Miller signed his first PTO with Portland, he was the ECHL's third leading scorer.
