Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans allowed two first period goals before eventually falling to the San Antonio Rampage 3-1 Wednesday night at The Blue Cross Arena. The loss is the second in a row for the Amerks, as their record drops to 14-21-1-0 on the season.

San Antonio, making its only trip to Rochester on the season, improves to 20-12-3-0 with the win as the Rampage closed out a six-game road swing.

Dan Catenacci scored the Amerks lone tally in the first period on an unassisted play. Andrey Makarov returned to the crease and made 18 saves as his record falls to 10-11-1 in 2014-15.

Ryan Martindale, Blake Parlett and Bobby Butler each scored for the Rampage, while veteran netminder Dan Ellis stopped 27 of Rochester's 28 shots to earn the win.

The Rampage scored two goals exactly three minutes apart beginning at the 9:41 mark of the first period. The first goal, scored by Martindale, came after the forward skated through the crease and poked the puck past Makarov for a 1-0 lead.

San Antonio tallied its second score off the stick of Parlett from the right circle to go ahead 2-0 just 12:41 into the game.

Catenacci cut San Antonio's lead in half with 4:51 remaining in the opening period on a one-man rush. The second-year forward entered the Rampage zone alone and wired a shot on net from the left circle. Ellis made the initial save, but a San Antonio defender's clearing attempt bounced off of a teammate right back to Catenacci, who lifted the puck over a sprawling Ellis.

Just over eight minutes into the middle frame, the Rampage regained their two-goal advantage after Butler converted on a partial breakaway with a low wrist-shot that fooled Makarov.

San Antonio thought it finished its fourth goal with 42.3 left in the second period following a scrum in front, but Makarov dove back and kept the puck from crossing the goal-line. Officials reviewed the play during the next stoppage and confirmed that the puck never entered the net, leaving the game at a 3-1 score.

Rochester pulled Makarov for the extra skater with just under a minute remaining in the third period, but Ellis was steady the rest of the way to hold the Amerks' last surge at bay.

The Amerks remain at home on Friday, Jan. 9 when they take on the Lake Erie Monsters for the second time this season in a 7:05 p.m. matchup at The Blue Cross Arena. Fans can tune in for all the live action on FOX Sports 1280 Rochester.
