Chicago Wolves News Release
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill.---The Chicago Wolves opened up a two-goal lead 4:35 into the game, but the Milwaukee Admirals rallied to tie things up in the third period and scored with 12 seconds left to steal a 4-3 victory at the Hoffman Estates Community Center and Ice Arena Friday night.
Milwaukee center Geoff Peters took a shot from the point that was stopped by Chicago goaltender Gerald Coleman, but Stephen Werner came streaking in a one-timed the rebound home to pull the win out from under the Wolves.
Chicago (0-1) got on the board just 31 seconds into the contest when left wing Tomas Pospisil took a pass from right wing Jeff Hamilton, drove towards the net and sent a quick blast past Admirals goaltender Mark Dekanich.
Dekanich stopped 17 shots for the Admirals.
Left wing Myles Stoesz added a second tally for Chicago just over four minutes later, when he picked the puck up out of a scrum in front of the net and tipped it past Dekanich to make the score 2-0.
Milwaukee (1-0) cut the Wolves lead in half at the 8:52 mark of the second period. Forward Matt Beaudoin took a pass from defenseman Scott Ford and raced down the right side of the ice and ripped a slap shot from the right circle that beat Wolves goaltender Robert Gherson to make the score 2-1.
Gherson made nine saves in 30:39 of work for the Wolves, while Coleman (0-1) thwarted seven Milwaukee attempts in 29:09 of relief work.
Chicago regained its two-goal advantage on the power-play when right wing Spencer Machacek took a pass from Hamilton in front of the Admirals net, spun around and deposited the puck past Dekanich at 13:08 of the middle frame, but the Admirals came out of the gates firing in the third period, knotting the score with two quick markers in the opening three minutes.
First, defenseman Donny Grover floated a shot from the blueline and right wing Ian McKenzie deflected the puck out of mid air and over Coleman's shoulder. The netminder attempted to bat the puck out with his stick, but it trickled over the goal line. Then, Beaudoin worked a quick give-and-go play from the left circle and Mark Van Guilder scored on a quick snapshot, beating Coleman stick-side to even the game, 3-3, at 3:10 of the final frame.
The Wolves travel to Milwaukee for their final preseason matchup against the Admirals at the Milwaukee School of Engineering's Kern Center tomorrow at 7 p.m.
