Falcons Beat Sharks 2-1

The Springfield Falcons beat the Worcester Sharks 2-1 on Friday night at the MassMutual Center in the Falcons' second preseason game. Bryan Lerg scored a pair of goals and now has all three goals for Springfield in the exhibition season.

After Worcester's Matt Fornataro evened the score at 1-1 early in the third period, Lerg scored his second marker of the contest with 4:47 remaining in the final frame helping even the Falcons' preseason record at 1-1.

Lerg opened the scoring when he converted on the power play midway through the first period giving Springfield a 1-0 advantage through 20 minutes of play.

The teams played a scoreless second period with Colin McDonald ringing a snap shot off the crossbar coming within inches of expanding Springfield's lead. Springfield goaltender Bryan Pitton was very solid in goal stopping all 12 shots he faced in 31 minutes of action.

GAME NOTES

Walking through the lobby of the Falcons Office in between periods, Falconsahl.com was able to bump into Liam Reddox and Adam Huxley just arriving into town. Devan Dubnyk is expected to arrive on Saturday.

Falcons forward Garet Hunt and Worcester's Frazer McLaren dropped the gloves for the game's first fight. Ryan O'Marra stepped up for teammate Bryan Lerg as O'Marra battled Worcester's Dan DaSilva after Lerg was hit late following his goal.

In the second period, Worcester's Dominic Osman and Springfield's Han Benson each collected fighting majors with Benson scoring the knockdown.
