Houston Aeros News Release

HOUSTON, Texas - The Houston Aeros opened the pre-season with a 5-4 shootout victory over the San Antonio Rampage in front of a crowded Sugar Land Ice & Sports Center Friday night. The game that had lead changes throughout took eight rounds during the shootout to decide the contest. Houston takes to the road Saturday for the second pre-season game at AT&T Center in San Antonio at 7 p.m.

The Rampage opened the game with a power-play goal in the first period at 6:10 with Adam Keefe netting the puck past net minder Nolan Schaefer. Each team recorded eight shots on net in the opening period.

After coming out of the first period with San Antonio leading 1-0 an unfamiliar face emerged in left wing John Lammers. Only 27 seconds in the second period a shot was deflected by Rampage goaltender Josh Tordjman. As the puck cleared the crease Lammers was able to reach back while falling and stuff the puck in as Tordjman was recovering from the initial save.

Lammers netted a power-play goal on a nearly identical play, giving the Aeros their first lead of the night with a score of 2-1 at 2:34 in the second frame. San Antonio's Drew Fata tied the game at two goals each at the 9:27 mark to finish the second period scoring.

Houston's Anton Khudobin received the nod for the third period and made six saves on seven shots. The Rampage also allowed two goals, by Aeros Ryan Lang and Clayton Stoner, sending the game into overtime with a four-four tie. The first pre-season game took eight rounds in the shootout to be decided with Lammers tallying the shootout-deciding goal for a 5-4 Aeros victory.

The regular season begins Saturday, October 11 at Toyota Center when the Aeros will take on the Chicago Wolves. Tickets are available for opening night by calling (713) 974-PUCK or going online to AEROS.com.
