Amerks And Knighthawks To Guest Appear At The Special Olympics

(ROCHESTER, NY)... Rochester Knighthawks star John Grant will serve as the keynote speaker at tonight's Opening Ceremonies at the Rochester Convention Center. The 2007 National Lacrosse League Championship Game and Regular Season MVP will give his speech at 7:30 p.m. to kickoff Special Olympics New York's 2008 Fall Games.

The Amerks Moose will be in attendance at the opening ceremonies this evening, greeting the participants and giving high fives. The Amerks and Knighthawks will also be attending the Special Olympics other events held this weekend. On Saturday, The Moose will be out at the Total Sports Experience (880 Elmgrove Rd.) in the Olympic Village from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

After the appearance at the Special Olympics the Moose will be off to the ESL Sports Centre. The Amerks will conclude the preseason with the second leg of the two-game series on Saturday, October 4th as the Lake Erie Monsters make their way to the ESL Sports Centre for Rochester's only home contest of the preseason. Faceoff is set for 7:35 p.m.

The Amerks will hold their first "Amerks Fan-Fest" on Sunday, October 5th from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena. The event is free and open to the public. The first 1,000 fans will receive a team photo courtesy of Downtown Minuteman Press. Fans in attendance will have the opportunity to meet the entire 2008-09 team, hang out with The Moose and even meet the new head coach, Benoit Groulx. There will also be clowns, mascots, face-painters and a dunk tank.

The Amerks will open their 53rd American Hockey League season at The Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial against the Syracuse Crunch. Faceoff is set for 7:35 p.m. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m.
