Buffalo Bisons News Release

A pitcher's duel went the way of the first place Red Wings on Wednesday, as Rochester defeated the Bisons 3-1. Though Buffalo outhit their opponents, Red Wings' pitching, led by starter Tommy Milone, quelled the Herd's chances to mount a rally.

Wade LeBlanc continued his outstanding pitching, firing seven innings, while allowing only two earned runs. The lefty recorded a season-high nine strikeouts. LeBlanc, coming off a dominating month of May, retired eight straight Red Wings at one point, also a new high for his season. He is handed just his second loss of the year, and his ERA of 1.67 still ranks among the best in the International League.

"The goal is to consistent every night," Wade LeBlanc said postgame. "Every night you get the ball, just give the team a chance to win. Five or six pitches cost us the game, and they put the bat on the ball and got the runs when they needed them."

Tommy Milone also pitched strong seven innings for the Red Wings, allowing just one earned run, punching out six hitters.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Bisons took a 1-0 lead. Darrell Ceciliani shot a ball to left field with Junior Lake on second base. Lake headed home and scored, as catcher John Ryan Murphy dropped the throw from Adam Brett Walker.

Murphy redeemed himself shortly after, as he tied the game for Rochester in the top of the fifth, plating Buck Britton with a RBI double. The Red Wings took a 2-1 lead in the next at bat, with a sac-fly from Wilfredo Tovar scoring Stephen Wickens. Murphy added a run of insurance in the ninth, collecting a RBI single off Ryan Tepera.

Rochester kept the lead in the bottom of sixth, as left fielder Logan Schafer threw Jesus Montero out at the plate following a Tony Sanchez single. The Herd stranded a runner on second in the seventh, and runners on second and third in the eighth. A combination of three relievers quieted the Bisons in the late innings, sealing the win for the Red Wings. J.T. Chargois earned his fourth save, pitching 1.1 innings.

"We're just not scoring runs right now," manager Gary Allenson said postgame. "We went from scoring a bunch to not scoring any. The pitching that they have probably has a lot to do with it. We had some opportunities, but just couldn't cash in. Some guys are a little too anxious and not getting their pitch to hit, so we got to be a little more patient."

The Bisons have now lost three straight to the Red Wings, and look to redeem themselves on Thursday. The finale game of the two-game series from Buffalo will take place tomorrow from Coca-Cola Field, with first pitch set for 1:05 p.m. Roberto Hernandez will square off against Andrew Albers.

BISONS NOTES:

Matt Dominguez returned to the Herd on Wednesday following short two-game stint with the Blue Jays. Dominguez was designated for assignment by Toronto on June 7, but stays with the organization after clearing optional waivers... Wade LeBlanc stretches his streak of quality starts to seven straight, and has allowed three earned runs or less in all 11 of his starts this year... Dalton Pompey extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a 12-pitch single in the third. Since May 24 he is 17 for his last 42, batting .405... Alexi Casilla pinch-ran for Jesus Montero in the eighth, but failed to score for the first time in his six pinch-running appearances this season.
