Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (32-27) managed just five hits in a 3-1 loss to the Gwinnett Braves (26-34) on Wednesday night at Coolray Field.
RHP Joel De La Cruz (5.0 IP, 3 H, BB, 3 K) earned the win for the Braves to even his record at 1-1 on the year. With a runner at second and two outs in the ninth, RHP Jose Ramirez (0.1 IP) came on and got the final out to notch his second save of the year.
Gwinnett took an early 3-0 lead with a trio of runs in the first as Erick Aybar and Matt Tuiasosopo each came through with RBI doubles while Reid Brignac knocked home another run with an RBI single in the inning.
All three runs were charged to IronPigs starter Severino Gonzalez (0-1) who gave up the three runs on five hits while fanning three over four innings of work.
Braves starter Shae Simmons (n/d) walked one in a scoreless inning of work.
The Pigs had runners at first and second with nobody out in the fourth, but De La Cruz got a force out for the first out and Cam Perkins to ground into a 3-6 double play to end the inning.
Logan Moore's solo shot off of RHP Stephen Janas (2.0 +IP, 2 H, R, ER, BB, K) in the top of the eighth brought Lehigh Valley within 3-1. The home run was Moore's second of the season.
LHP Mario Hollands (3.0 IP, 2 H, BB, 5 K) and RHP Frank Herrmann (1.0 IP, H, BB) each had a scoreless outing in relief for manager Dave Brundage's squad.
The series wraps up on Thursday at 12:05 p.m. as RHP David Buchanan (3-4, 4.96) will be on the bump for the IronPigs against a starter yet to be determined for Gwinnett.
