Matt Belisle Joins Chiefs on Rehab Assignment

Right-handed pitcher Matt Belisle has been added to the Chiefs' roster Wednesday on Major-League rehab.

Belisle was placed on the Nationals' disabled list April 27th with a right calf strain. In six rehab games between Advanced-A Potomac and Double-A Harrisburg, Belisle has posted a 4.50 ERA. The right-hander made the Nationals' Opening Day roster as a non-roster invitee to spring training. In seven games with Washington, he sports a 1.50 ERA, allowing six hits and one run in six innings, while walking one and striking out three.

Belisle, a 36-year-old right-hander from Austin, Texas, is a veteran of 565 Major-League games, 521 of which have been in relief. He owns a career 4.32 ERA in 13 seasons. Belisle has pitched with the Reds (2003, 05-08), Rockies (2009-14) and Cardinals (2015) in his Major-League career. Last season, he pitched in 34 games for the St. Louis Cardinals to the tune of a 2.67 ERA. He also led the National League in 2012 with 80 games pitched while playing for the Rockies.

The Chiefs play the third of a four-game series with the Louisville Bats Wednesday at 6:35, with the series and homestand finale at 6:35 on Thursday.
